What is NDA ?

The National Defence Academy (NDA) is a prestigious training institute in Pune, Maharashtra, India, where cadets from the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force receive joint training before proceeding to their respective service academies. It holds the distinction of being the world’s first tri-service academy. NDA has a rich history of producing exceptional leaders, with numerous Param Vir Chakra and Ashoka Chakra recipients among its alumni.The academy has also produced several Chiefs of Staff for the armed forces. NDA exam is conducted by UPSC(Union Public Service Commission). 

Notably, the Supreme Court of India recently allowed female candidates to appear for future NDA entrance examinations. So, female candidates buckle up and know all about NDA application form.

The NDA conducts recruitment drives twice a year. The second recruitment phase is currently in progress, while the exam for the second phase is scheduled for September 2023.

The important dates for NDA 2 exam in 2023 are as follows:

– NDA 2 Notification 2023: The notification for NDA 2 exam released on 17th May 2023.

– NDA 2 Application Form 2023: The application form for NDA 2 exam was be available from 17th May 2023.

– NDA Registration’s and fee pay  Last Date: The last date for registration for NDA 2 exam was 06th June 2023, till 6 pm.

– Modification of Application Form: Candidates can make modifications in their application form from 07th to 13th June 2023.

– NDA 2 Exam Date 2023: The NDA 2 exam is scheduled to be held on 03rd September 2023.

Payment of Fee

Candidates, excluding SC/ST candidates, female candidates, and wards of JCOs/NCOs/ORs who are exempted from fee payment, are required to pay an application fee of Rs. 100/- (Rupees one hundred only). The fee can be paid through various modes:

1. Cash Payment: Candidates can visit any branch of the State Bank of India and remit the fee in cash.

2. Online Payment: Candidates can make the payment using Visa/Master/RuPay Credit/Debit Card, UPI Payment, or internet banking of any Bank.

It is important to note that the fee payment must be completed within the specified timeframe as mentioned in the official instructions. Failure to pay the fee within the given period may lead to the rejection of the application.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

EDUCATIONAL ELIGIBILITY:

The educational qualifications for the NDA exam are as follows:

– Educational Qualifications:

  – For Army Wing of National Defence Academy: Candidates must have passed the 12th class examination of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or an equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University.

  – For Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defence Academy and for the 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the Indian Naval Academy: Candidates must have passed the 12th class examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or an equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University.

  – Candidates appearing in the 12th class examination under the 10+2 pattern of School Education or an equivalent examination are also eligible to apply.

– Certificates issued by the Principals of the Institutions are acceptable in cases where Boards/Universities have not yet issued certificates.

– Candidates appearing in the 11th class exam are not eligible for this examination.

– Candidates who have yet to qualify in the 12th class or equivalent examination and are allowed to appear in the UPSC Examination must submit proof of passing the 12th class or equivalent examination by the prescribed date.

– Candidates debarred by the Ministry of Defence from holding any type of Commission in the Defence Services are not eligible for admission.

– Candidates who failed CPSS/PABT earlier are now eligible for Air Force in Ground Duty branches if they indicate their willingness in the Online Application Form provided by the Commission.

1. For the Army Wing of the National Defence Academy: Candidates must have passed the 12th class of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or an equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University.

2. For the Air Force and Naval Wings of the National Defence Academy, and for the 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the Indian Naval Academy: Candidates must have passed the 12th class with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or an equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University.
   

3.Candidates who are currently appearing in the 12th class or equivalent examination are also eligible to apply for the NDA exam.

4.Candidates must provide proof of passing the 12th class or equivalent examination by the prescribed date. 

5.Candidates who have been debarred by the Ministry of Defence from holding any type of Commission in the Defence Services are not eligible. 

6.Candidates who previously failed the CPSS/PABT are now eligible for Air Force in Ground Duty branches if they indicate their willingness in the Online Application Form.

AGE AND NATIONALITY

– Nationality: 

The candidate must be an unmarried male/female and must belong to one of the following categories:

  – Citizen of India
  – Subject of Nepal
  – Person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
– Candidates belonging to categories (ii) and (iii) mentioned above must have a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India, except for Gorkha subjects of Nepal.

– Age Limits, Sex, and Marital Status: 

Only unmarried male/female candidates born between 2nd January 2005 and 1st January 2008 are eligible.

– The date of birth accepted by the Commission is that which is mentioned in the Matriculation or Secondary School Leaving Certificate, or a certificate recognized by an Indian University as equivalent to Matriculation, or an extract from a Register of Matriculates maintained by a University certified by the proper authority.

– Other documents relating to age, such as horoscopes, affidavits, birth extracts from Municipal Corporation, service records, etc., will not be accepted.

– The expression “Matriculation/Secondary School Examination Certificate” includes the alternative certificates mentioned above in this instruction.

Physical and Medical Eligibility for NDA

No. OF SEATS:

The National Defence Academy (NDA) offers a limited number of seats for each branch of the Indian Armed Forces. Here are the details of the seats available for each wing:

– Army: 208 seats, including 10 seats for female candidates.

 

– Navy: 42 seats, including 12 seats for female candidates.

– Air Force:
  – Flying: 92 seats, including 2 seats for female candidates.
 – Ground Duties (Technical): 18 seats, including 2 seats for female candidates.
 – Ground Duties (Non-Technical): 10 seats, including 2 seats for female candidates.

Naval Academy (10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme): 

– 25 seats, including 7 seats for female candidates.

A total of 395 seats.
